چکیده

In orthopedics, occasionally, different types of metals are used in applications which they contact with each other. However, few studies have electrochemically investigated the galvanic corrosion orthopedic implants formed metals. this study, Ti–6Al–4V ELI alloy, Co–Cr–Mo and 316L type stainless steel, a newly developed Zr–1Mo alloy as low-magnetic susceptibility material was evaluated saline. Coupling alloys did not exhibit localized maintained highly stable passive films. steel temporary occurred. Similarly, coupling alloys, both were finally repassivated spontaneously immersion time. The degree smaller than that steel. No current observed when coupled. A slight flowed or coupled other alloys; however, recovered to zero after certain period owing repassivation. metal ions detected from couplings Zr–1Mo.

Is galvanic corrosion between titanium alloy and stainless steel spinal implants a clinical concern?

BACKGROUND CONTEXT Surgeons are hesitant to mix components made of differing metal classes for fear of galvanic corrosion complications. However, in vitro studies have failed to show a significant potential for galvanic corrosion between titanium and stainless steel, the two primary metallic alloys used for spinal implants. Galvanic corrosion resulting from metal mixing has not been described i...

Intergranular pitting corrosion of CoCrMo biomedical implant alloy.

CoCrMo samples of varying microstructure and carbon content were electrochemically corroded in vitro and examined by scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction techniques. The rate of corrosion was minimized (80% reduction from icorr = 1396 nA/cm(2) to icorr = 276 nA/cm(2) ) in high-carbon CoCrMo alloys which displayed a coarser grain structure and partially dissolved sec...

Comparative MRI compatibility of 316 L stainless steel alloy and nickel-titanium alloy stents.

The initial success of coronary stenting is leading to a proliferation in peripheral stenting. A significant portion of the stents used in a clinical setting are made of 316 low carbon stainless steel (SS). Other alloys that have been used for stent manufacture include tantalum, MP35N, and nickel-titanium (NiTi). The ferromagnetic properties of SS cause the production of artifacts in magnetic r...

Effect of Sodium Fluoride on the Stability of Dental Alloys in Artificial Saliva

Dental alloys as CoCrMo, SS 316L stainless steel and NiTi were electrochemically investigated in artificial Fusayama saliva, unmodified and modified with two different concentrations of natrium fluoride. Electrochemical tests include measurements of open circuit, measurements of linear polarization, potentiodinamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectra. The best electrochemi...
